ロングマン英英辞典“walk”の１３番目に“walk the walk”という表現を見つけた。“to do things that people expect or think are necessary in a particular situation”「特定の状況下で必要だと思われたり期待されたりすることをなすこと」とあり“talk the talk”と比較せよとある。“t”が“w”に取って代わっただけだから、“to do”「なすこと」が“to say”「言うこと」に改まるだけ。以下のように他は全く同じ説明が続いている。“to say things that people expect or think are necessary in a particular situation”“talk the talk and walk the walk”を「言うべき時に言うべきことを言い、やるべき時にやるべきことをやる」と和訳したのは、Asahi Weekly。例文として“Because the manager did talk the talk and walk the walk,he immediately got great respect from the players.”「監督は有言実行したので、選手達からすぐに尊敬された」を掲載している。もっと簡潔に“walk the talk”と喋ったりもするらしい。“to do what one said one could do,or would,not just making empty promises”「自分にはできるとか、やってみせるとか言ったことを空約束にせずにやり通すこと」とあるから、正に「有言実行」という訳がぴったり。“Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk.”「実行できないのなら、偉そうなことを言うな」空手形を連発した政治屋どもに言ってやりたいねェ。
